Third Thirsty Thursday
Bill Smith directed his 20th and final Smith's Challenge 10K Trail Race. Daryl Weaver won, followed by Mark Amway in 2nd overall and 1st Master. Justin Krebs, Tim Schuler and Evan Sandt rounded out the top 5. Much and many thanks to the LRRCurr support out in force racing, volunteering and cheering on dear old dads from all over. See overall and age group results. Karen Sandt took some pictures, Christian Taylor posted some GPS oriented statistics and we'll have more soon - see the page.
Laurel Highlands 70.5 Mile Trail Run Marcia Peters competed & completed this tough run in the Somerset area of western Pennsylvania. Marcia reported: Saturday, I ran the Laurel Highlands 70 miler. My official race time was 20:45, actual time was 19:15. That means I was 90 minutes late to the start. It rained (hard) all day but was kind enough to stop around 7pm so that I could finish it out in the dark, dry (kind of). Let me just say that it is a heck of alot harder once it gets dark to move quickly. The course is very gnarly and the ferns and laurel and were growing over the trail. I couldn't see the trail so I tripped constantly. The 90 minute delay probably added alot more to my time cause it just got darker sooner. I felt great through the whole run, gearing up for Leadville in August See results.
Strip Mine Nine We received the following mini-report from Joni Shirk: We had a great showing of LRRC-ers at the Strip Mine 9 Trail run in Mt. Carmel yesterday June 8th. Heide Moebius and Bonnie Stoeckl both took 1st in age group awards, others who ran (and finished) included Jeanette Fitzgerald, Doris Olney and her sister Kathy, Bob Spotts, Joni Shirk, Barry Elder. A very fine trail race! See results.
Run the Monk Ahh, night races rule... Dave Herneisen ran, along with daughter Kirsten, along with Kathi & Henry Franco and John Markley. Dave nabbed an age grp award. See the report & results page.
LRRCurz Joe Peko and Steve Farrah (El de tres Presidente) are riding bikes across the country. They began on 6/07/08 in the California coast then instant desert & are heading east. They've gotta nice blog/site going at 2Geezers2Oceans.com . Between the 2 of 'em they've got a buck-ten-maybe buck twenty years on this planet. So yeah they're doing what a lot of us would rather do than work, but they've already bowed down to middle managers for 80+ or so odd years (so they know the defintion of suffer), and this is what they're doing during retirement. So that means....while others rot on couches during the sultry, simmering summer days, they'll be pedaling eastward through all the elements-flat tires and all. These things always begin and end with a bunch of fanfare with big lulls in the middle. What they'll need is a lot of encouragement when they're in pig's nuckle IA or OH or NE. So head over to 2Geezers2Oceans.com and tell 'em you're thinking of 'em, jealous of 'em & tell 'em to keep on keeping on especially under baking & broiling skies in the dead of July somewhere in the midwest.
Wissahickon Trail 10k Trail Daryl Weaver won, LRRCurz Ed Stauffer, Peter Belanger ran and probably made a nice afternoon of it in some kind of roadhouse, strip joint or brew pub. Stay tuned for the report. See results, the home page (down at press time) and oh whatever, the application.

See overall results & results page Boston Marathon Boston is indeed the world's oldest and grandest marathon and re-confirms that in running, everyone can line up & race the best in the world. LRRC finishers included Peter Barber, Jeanette Fitzgerald & Jeff Kirchner. Many other Lancaster County finishers can be found via searchable results. The internet is chock full of information, some useful, some questionable and some that validates that high speed connection fee. Bull Run Run 50 Miler Congrats to Harry Smith, Marcia Peters, Christian Taylor, Steve Farrah, Leo & Katie Lutz and Bill Breidenstine. All finished this year's BRR-50. Bull Run allows runners to run 50 miles in real woods in the one of the last parts of Northern Virginia that hasn't succumbed to the progress of shopping/strip malls, endless cul-de-sacs and other assorted sprawl. All finishers accomplished some sort of milestone - it was Harry's 15th finish, Marcia's 11th finish/first in age, Katie & Christian's first 50 mile finish, Leo's 6th finish so that makes an even 300 miles run, Steve's first 50/1st in age and i think but am uncertain that it was Bill's first 50, at very least first BRR 50. So if you see these folks, tip your cap, buy 'em a beer or do the equivalent of saying 'hey way to go'. See results, age groupers and head to the report page for skads of pictures. Pagoda to Home Plate 5 mile Bill & Laurie Hess (1st/age) and Bob Long ran see reports (here & here) that confirmed fast times & quaking quads experienced on the way from pagoda to stadium. See results. Mrs. Smith's Challenge is coming up - Mark those calendars for Saturday May 10. Come run the race and see the beauty of Lancaster's County Park at the peak of spring. Come volunteer and cheer on your favority female trail runners. See the application - Page 1, Page 2. Questions? Contact Bill Smith, race director.

See results, results with LRRC times posted, stats by Christian's Dick Tracy doo-hickey, great photos by Aimee Harmon & Leo Lutz, and miscellaneous well wishes, add-ons & pile-ons. First the good news Clocks have changed! Daylight lasts till 7:00 ish by the 8th. Now the bad news If you run on Tuesday nights you're stuck in the park. Of course there is some kind of rationale. Until such time, just think about-future runs. In April. Next month. As you run in daylight. In the park.
Caesar Rodney Half Marathon Dave Hirneisen , daughter Kirsten, Doug Thomas, Don Doster, Clarence Dawson, Andy Fry, Laurie Hess and Ray Bradley all ran, ee results, Dave's report, and photos.

So congrats all. Got some time? Track down some race pics, see overalls. And new: Pictures by Lois Summers.
Frozen Foot #2 Based on the raindrops falling at the start, it looked like racers were going to drenched, onlookers too, but somehow the rain didn't fall & it just turned out to be a high 30/low 40 Feburary day. . Saginaw 5k Never know if it's "The" Saginaw or just-Saginaw, but... Sil Simpson, Steve Farrah, Karen & Miles Sandt and a few other knowable names ran the S-5k, in kind of cool - higher 20 degree weather along the shores of the Susquehanna. Pictures.
What's Best about the LRRC Bored? Looking for things to do? Got some nervous energy? What's best about the LRRC is that members do active things. Tho some clubs get mired in administrative muck before actually do anything, this club Does What It Can When It Can Because It Can. Example? Weekend of February 09, '08, no fewer than 4 different opportunites present themselves- like running the rugged trails of the AT near Clarks Ferry, running the earl-gray tea trails of Mt Gretna, taking in the County Park trails , or enjoying the Conestoga Trail in the scary-to-many rolling river hillls of Southwestern Lancaster County. And that's just the trail runs. People living in so-called cosmopolitan areas forfeit opportunities to hop on trails or run on country roads without an hour's worth of hell before getting anywhere. The LRRC does What It Can Because It Can. So come join the fun; sure beats watching TV! See pics from three of four: uno, dos, tres.
Awards Dinner Congratulations to Lois Summers, the LRRC's Road Runner of the Year. Christian Taylor took home Most Improved, Dave Herniezen won the "Fun Creator" award (see the speech), Ed Stauffer won the special "Santi Rafannel award (see Santi's response) & Karen & Evan Sandt were awarded Supportive Spouse(s). Great photos were taken by Jim Castanzo & Aimee Harmon
HURT Diana Widdowsin ran one hundred miles in the Hawaiian jungle at the Hawaiian Ultra Running Team Endurance run, clocking a thirty four hour & thirty six minute time. See? It takes more time to fly to Hawaii than run a hundred in Hawaii. Results
Vacation
No work just play. That means skiing,
eating,
hydrating
all somewhere in the Green Mt. State, followed by more of the same in
gawd's country. Since Miles kicked the official daycare habit, dunno
what # vacation this is....It also means that whatever gets written
in this space won't be written & posted till something like February
4th, 5th, 6th or well after. Those that read this scrawl-aside from
those looking for a race to get posted, or those looking for something
in return (does this total more than single digits?) can do some killer
rave run research, run a race, stay the course on
Tuesday Fun Runs,
Thursday Trail Runs, &
Sunday Runs-like
show up & run, buy, renovate and have ready the LRRC clubhouse for
Feb 5th, bring a Mellow Mushroom
to town & have it open in March and maybe umm solve the crisis in
the Middle East, clean up all roadside trash & put an end to soggy
bread once & for all.
