LRRC & Roads

Lancaster County is blessed with beautiful places to run.  Trees and big hills, open farm land, rolling river hills and urban city-scapes allow for great running throughout the county.  The LRRC promotes getting out to see the county, on foot.

Races An average of 25 local road runs are put on each year by various organizations in the area.  Some races kick offStoudts! community events, some are staged as benefits and some are put on for no discernible reason at all.  Typical distances range from 5K to 7miles.  The road running 'season', if there is such a thing, runs from April to October, though a few races take place after this time.

LRRC & Races The LRRC is directly involved with 4 races.  They include the Stoudt's Brewing Distance Classic,  Smith’s Challenge Mrs. Smith's Challenge and the Conestoga Trail Run.  Of these races, Stoudt's Brewing Distance Classic is a 12 kilometer road race held every Fall in northern Lancaster County.  The club looks forward to being involved in more road races in the future.   Club members participate in many runs in and around the area.  Car pools to races out of the county are quite frequent.

Believe it or not, training can be funTraining Runs Club members certainly compete in several races per year and they participate in even more training runs per year.  Many tend to get in a rut when training by doing the same courses over and over again.  To this, we say get out and run somewhere..............else!  Try a new route, drive or ride your bike somewhere and run somewhere new.   Email Us  to suggest a run course.  We'll get our trusty team of researchers to check out the course, write a review & stick it on the website.

Where to go: The road runner in Lancaster County can consider a nice variety of road and hard surface running options.  Open roads can lead to a number of new experiences when 1 maps one's own course.  Just going to a place to park and running one's own course can be a great experience.  The LRRC's Tuesday Night Fun Runs provide group run settings throughout the county during warmer months of the year. A second option can be Park Circuits.  Several 'circuits' or small loop areas are available.  These include the Long's Park (Ariel view) 1 5/8 mile loop as well as the rectangle that forms around Franklin & Marshal College & Buchanan Park. Lancaster's Central Park roads (Map, Ariel view) and The Middle Creek (Ariel view) preserve/park road.

Tid bits of what else one might want to know  Many all weather tracks are available for those looking to do speed work.  Hills?  The southern and western parts of the county are blessed with rolling hills.  Flat, long stretches?  See Charlestown Rd outside of Millersville or practically any road to the east between routes 23 & 30.
